The Influence of Capital Modernity on the Values of Chinese Youth——A Marxist Empirical Analysis
Guided by Marxism,this study analyzes the relationship between capital modernity and youth values using the Generalized Linear Mixed Model,based on data from the 2010-2020 China Family Panel Studies(CFPS).The findings are as follows:Capital modernity has led youth to place a strong emphasis on personal achievement,while also being accompanied by a rise in materialistic values,where wealth is seen as a measure of success.It has increased reflection on competitive dynamics,raising expectations for justice and fairness.Capital modernity still signifi-cantly influences the values of disadvantaged youth,suggesting that policies should account for the broad impact of capital logic.Capital modernity influences Chinese youth values through complex tensions,and China's efforts to manage capital should be recognized.In sum,capital modernity is key to understanding the pressures,competition,and disengagement shaping Chinese youth values.This interdisciplinary study is the first to provide a Marxist empirical analysis of Chinese youth values.
