Research on the Impact of Internet Usage on Human Capital Development
The article is based on data from the China Family Panel Survey(CFPS)in 2014,2016,and 2018,and empirically analyzes the impact of internet use on cognitive and non-cognitive ability.Research shows that the use of the internet significantly improves individuals'cognitive and non-cognitive ability, but the effect on cognitive ability is stronger than non-cognitive ability. The use of the Internet affects cognitive ability by promoting educational investment and improving life satisfaction, but affects non-cognitive ability by improving family relationships and absorbing online culture. The improvement effect of using the internet on ability is not significantly different among different genders and family economic conditions, except for individuals with higher maternal education, which reflects the good inclusiveness of using the internet. Finally,in different dimensions of non-cognitive ability, internet use only has a signifi-cant impact on outward orientation and openness, while its impact on other dimensions is not significant. Therefore, overall, the effect of internet use on improving non cognitive ability is weaker than cognitive ability.
