Enhanced Prognosis of Acute Posterior Circulation Infarction with Gastrointestinal Dysfunction by Regulating the Brain-Gut Axis using a Combination of Back-Shu and Front-Mu Acupoints
Objective:The aim of this study is to observe the improvement effect of acupoint combination of Shu and Mu electroacupuncture on neurological and gastrointestinal function in patients with acute posterior circulation cerebral infarction ac-companied by gastrointestinal dysfunction. Methods:From May 2021to January 2023,126patients from four hospitals in Sichuan Province were randomly divided into an electroacupuncture group,a sham electroacupuncture group, and a control group, with 42patients in each group. On the basis of routine treatment, the electroacupuncture group and the sham electroacupuncture group were given early 3-day electroacupuncture treatment.Compare the differences in neurological impairment score(NIHSS),tradi-tional Chinese medicine syndrome score for acute ischemic stroke, and gastrointestinal function symptom efficacy score between patients on the 3rd and 28th days of treatment/discharge.Results:Compared with the control group, the NIHSS score of the elec-troacupuncture group decreased on the 3rd day(P<0.05);Compared with the two groups, the NIHSS score of the electroacu-puncture group decreased on the 28th day/discharge(P<0.05);Compared with the control group, the traditional Chinese medi-cine syndrome scores of the electroacupuncture group decreased on the 3rd and 28th day of treatment/discharge(P<0.05);The total effective rate of the electroacupuncture group in terms of gastrointestinal function score reached 66.7%,significantly higher than that of the sham electroacupuncture group(50.0%)and the control group(33.3%)(P=0.039);Compared with the two groups, the electroacupuncture group showed a decrease in gastrointestinal decompression on the third day of treatment;Compared with the two groups, the gastrointestinal function score of the electroacupuncture group decreased on the 28th day/discharge(P<0.05).Conclusion:The combination of acupoints of Yu and Mu with electroacupuncture can improve the neurological and gastro-intestinal functions of patients with acute posterior circulation cerebral infarction accompanied by gastrointestinal dysfunction.
