Buyang Huanwu Decoction plays an anti atherosclerotic role by stabilizing arterial plaque based on autophagy. This study selected ApoE-/-mice for model replication. After successful model replication,they were divided into model group,Buyang Huanwu Decoction (low and high doses),and atorvastatin group;ApoE-/-mice with C57BL/6J background were set as the blank group and orally administered continuously for 4 weeks. Masson staining was used to observe the degree of fibrosis in mice aortic sinus plaques. Biochemical analyzer was used to measure the expression level of blood lipids. ELISA method was used to detect the expression levels of peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ (PPARγ),matrix met-alloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix met-alloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). Western blot was used to detect the expression levels of sequestosome 1 (p62) and microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) proteins. The results showed that compared with the model group,Buyang Huanwu Decoction could reduce the area of collagen fibers in the aortic sinus of mice,elevate the expression level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in mice serum (P<0. 05),and reduce the expression levels of total cholesterol (TC),triglycerides (TG) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (P<0. 05),reduce the expression levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in mice aorta (P<0. 05) and increase expression level of PPARγ (P<0. 01),reduce the expression level of p62 protein in mice aorta (P<0. 01) and increase the expression level of LC3Ⅱ/LC3Ⅰ protein (P<0. 05). It is suggested that Buyang Huanwu Decoction has a stabilizing effect on AS plaques,which may be related to promoting autophagy.
