Effect of kidney-tonifying,blood-activating and collateral-dredging acupuncture combined with platelet-rich plas-ma in the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis and the impact on serum inflammation level
Objective:To observe the effect of kidney-tonifying,blood-activating and collateral-dredging acupuncture com-bined with platelet-rich plasma(PRP)in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis(KOA),and the impact on serum inflammatory factor levels. Methods:A total of 82 patients with KOA who were treated in the hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected and randomly divided into two groups.Patients in the control group(n=41)were treated with PRP and those in the com-bination group(n=41)were treated with kidney-tonifying,blood-activating and collateral-dredging acupuncture combined with PRP.Therapeutic effects, serum inflammatory factor levels, cartilage repair related cytokine levels and knee function recovery in the two groups were observed and compared. Results:After treatment, there were significant decreases in TCM syndrome scores in both groups, and the decreases were greater in the combination group than in the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of treatment in the combination group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, there were significant decreases in the levels of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3)and tumor necro-sis factor(TNF)-α in both groups, and the levels were lower in the combination group(P<0.05).There were decreases in transforming growth factor(TGF-β1)levels,and increases in the levels of osteoprotegerin(OPG)and bone gla protein(BGP)in both groups.Compared with the control group, the combination group had lower TGF-β1 level, and higher levels of OPG and BGP(P<0.05).The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index(WOMAC)scores and Lequesne MG scores of both groups were significantly reduced, and the combination group had significantly lower scores(P<0.05).Conclusion:Kid-ney-tonifying,blood-activating and collateral-dredging acupuncture combined with PRP is effective to treat patients with KOA,which can effectively improve the levels of serum inflammatory factors and cartilage repair related cytokines as well as knee pain and function.
