Purpose:This article delves into the treatment of edema as depicted in Xue Ji's"Synopsis of Internal Medicine,"ai-ming to encapsulate the medicinal characteristics and treatment principles of Wu school physician Xue Ji in addressing edema.Xue Ji's clinical cases often stem from visceral deficiencies,with particular emphasis on the spleen,stomach,and kidneys.Xue Ji adeptly em-ploys tonification methods,prioritizing the preservation of righteous qi and underscoring the pivotal role of the spleen and kidneys.Treatment strategies may intertwine complementary approaches,prioritize tonification,or integrate tonification with purgation.Profi-cient in adapting ancient formulas,Xue Ji frequently employs prescriptions such as Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang,Liu Jun Zi Tang,Liu Wei Wan,and Ba Wei Wan to treat edema,either individually or in combination,to facilitate diuresis and reduce swelling.This article,guided by the treatment modalities outlined in the"Synopsis of Internal Medicine,"showcases notable clinical efficacy and concludes with a representative case study for elucidation.
