New Discoveries of Dinosaur Fossils and Study on Burial Environment in the Middle Section of Jiaolai Basin
Jiaolai basin is rich in dinosaur fossil resources.Previous discoveries are concentrated in Laiyang city and Zhucheng city.In recent years, new dinosaur skeleton and dinosaur egg fossils have been found in Qingdao area, including Anjiagou dinosaur(egg)fossil site in Jiaozhou,Dagaolan and Jiangou dinosaur egg fossil sites in Laixi, and Duanbolan-Lingshan dinosaur fossil site in Jimo. The dinosaur fossils found in this area include true ornithopods,theropods,parrot-beaked dinosaurs, and duck-billed dinosaurs. The types of dinosaur egg fossils include branched dinosaur eggs, angular eggs, round eggs, oval eggs and elongated eggs. The dinosaur fossils in this area are mainly preserved in situ, with the burial environment being river floodplain and shallow lake facies. The fossil layers are often accompanied by abundant trace fossils, gastropods, plant fossils and bivalve fossils. The suitable depositional environment and abundant food sources are important factors for dinosaurs to choose these areas for reproduction.Volcanic activity is an important factor leading to the aggregation, death, and burial of dinosaurs, while periodic changes in depositional environments, large scale landslides, and flood events are the direct causes of fossil burial.
