Research on the Influence of Balsa Moisture Content on Its Compression and Shear Performance
Balsa, also known as light wood,is one of the commonly used materials for manufacturing wind turbine blades. At present, the moisture content of Balsa used for wind turbine blades is usually controlled below 12%,and too high moisture content will cause defects in blade production. In order to study the influence of different moisture content, this paper selects the commercially available Balsa plate and the epoxy resin widely used in wind turbine blades, and studies and analyzes the influence of different moisture content on the compression and out of plane shear properties of Balsa body and shell. The experimental results show that the moisture content of 0%,2.5%,5%,7.5%and 10%has an impact on the compression performance of the body and shell.Because the moisture will affect the fiber bonding ability between wood, the lower the moisture content, the better the compression and shear performance of Balsa, which provides data support for the control of Balsa moisture content in leaf production. At the same time, the impact of high moisture content of Balsa on resin pouring is evaluated, which has guiding significance for the production of the factory.
