Metaphor is not only a language phenomenon but also a kind of thinking mode.As human being's important cognitive mechanism,metaphors hide in many modes like image,sound and action besides in language.Charles Forceville is the first person who puts out multimodal metaphor study,which expands the research fields of conceptual metaphors and promotes the development of conceptual metaphors theory system.Multimodal metaphor is a sort of conceptual metaphor which expresses the metaphorical meanings by using interaction among language words,image,sound and action modes.This article is to explore the multimodal metaphor phenomenon and analyze the vital persuasive functions of metaphorical mechanism on the basis of multimodal metaphor theory and language features of anti-smoking public service advertisements.
