Abstract
Reusing an existing building as a whole and its components can significantly reduce environmental impacts.Swiss architect Barbara Buser and her team have developed a low-carbon model of building renovation over the past 30 years:adaptively reuse old buildings with minimal intervention through spatial matching, maximize the use of existing materials and components through construction tolerances, and make circular construction feasible through the creation of professional platforms to connect various stakeholders in the construction industry. This paper restores the systematization process of this low-carbon construction model by focusing on a number of landmark projects and points out the architectural value of this paradigm shift.
