Power of ImagesPictures in Writing and Teaching Architectural History
Architectural images of various kinds are indispensable to architecture as a discipline, integral to every stage from searching for a project in building practice to disseminating architectural ideas, holding a critical position in the teaching and writing of architectural history.Based on the author's experience in teaching the history of Western architecture, drawing on the research findings from scholars'articles in this issue, this paper tries to provide a critical review of architectural images as a form of representation,as well as their evolving characters in history, their manifestation in the design process, and their autonomous form from practice in conveying new ideas.By engaging with the"metapictures"theory, the paper explores a possible strategy for developing a discourse of theory on architectural image in the new era.
