Study on relationship between construction industry development and environmental pollution in Liaoning Province based on VAR model
Investigating the relationship between the development of the construction industry and environmental pollution in Liaoning Province,as well as clarifying the development model and transformation and upgrading directions,is a key to realize the high-quality development of the construction industry. This study estimates construction-related carbon emissions using data from 2000 to 2020 on the total economic outputs of the construction industry and industrial"three wastes"emissions.Utilizing the Vector Auto-Regressive(VAR)model,the long-term evolution relationship between the economic growth of the construction industry and various environmental pollution indicators is analyzed.Furthermore, through impulse response analysis and variance decomposition, this study calculates the dynamic econometric relationship between the economic growth in the construction industry and environmental pollution in Liaoning Province. The results reveal that there is a long-term stable relationship between the economic growth of the construction industry and environmental pollution. The economic growth of the construction industry has a long-term positive effect on environmental pollution. However, the impact of environmental pollution arouses a dual effect on the economic growth.Specifically, industrial sulfur dioxide emissions, soot emissions and solid waste generation inhibit the growth of the construction industry output value, while carbon dioxide emissions will stimulate the development of the construction industry in the short term.
