FINGARETTE's Interpretation of Rites in The Analects of Confucius and Its Modern Reconstruction
FINGARETTE interprets and studies The Analects of Confucius from the perspective of western everyday language analysis philosophy. He regards"rites"as the essence of human existence, and profoundly elaborates the moral norms, social practice and sacred significance of"rites".FINGARETTE attaches impor-tance to the original text analysis of The Analects of Confucius. He tries to avoid introducing interpretative texts and attempts to correct the popular"subjective-psychological"interpretation in the West. However, due to overcorrection,he falls into another kind of prejudice instead,so he fails to find the final value basis and psy-chological origin of"rites",making the sacred rites become"water without a source".
