Pragmatic Research in the Language Computation Processes in Generative Grammar
Since its foundation,Generative Grammar has held that syntax is the center of the research in the internal computations of language, advocating the necessities and importance of pragmatic research, which includes the research of the interface concerned with language use in the external performance systems. These performance systems are directly related to discourse-related factors or pragmatics, and interfaces are assumed to connect the internal and external systems of language.Pragmatics participates in the whole language compu-tational procedure, interpreting and shifting semantic expressions at the interfaces. Therefore, uninterpretable features constitute an indispensable syntactic phenomenon to derive dislocation:a perfect section and instance of displacement of language, which is driven by the eligible conditions imposed by the external performance systems. In this way, designing uninterpretable features not only enhances language's expressive and explana-tory power, but reflects the shifting functions of pragmatics for the syntactic expressions, guaranteeing the final production of appreciated information structures.
