On Performance of Pre-Propeller Energy Saving Device in Waves
In this paper,a pre-propeller energy saving device is designed for a 230,000 tons VLOC.The numerical calculation of resistance and self-propulsion under the still water and the regular heading wave(the wavelength equals to the length of the ship)is carried out respectively. The influence of waves on the energy-saving effect of the pre-propeller energy saving device is analyzed. The corresponding model tests in still water and regular waves are carried out,and the numerical results are compared with the model test data. The results show that the energy saving effect of the pre-propeller energy saving device in waves is less than that in still water. In addition, the numerical calculation results are in good agreement with the model test data, which verifies the feasibility of the numerical calculation method for the evaluation of the energy saving effect of energy-saving devices in waves.
