Design and performance analysis and optimization of semi-trailing arm suspension
In the development of chassis platformization,in order to balance vehicle comfort and load capacity, while considering driving and layout space,it was necessary to design a semi-trailing arm suspension system that meets various performance requirements. This suspension system could provide high load capacity, reduce the vertical layout space of the rear suspension, optimize vehicle handling and ride, and balance the comfort requirements of MPV type of vehicles and the high loading and handling performance requirements of VAN type of vehicles. The key points of the semi-trailing arm suspension were first analyzed, the layout of the hardpoints and the key dimensions of the semi-trailing arm were optimized to compromise the universal design in the design process of the platform suspension, then the dynamic theory derivation and the matched calculation of the elastic components were conducted, and finally the comparative analysis and verification of the suspension kinematics performance were carried out through the dynamic model. The results indicated that, the developed semi-trailing arm suspension was a suspension system with higher load, smaller space, better ride performance, and superior handling.
