Growth Paradox and the Game of Life:Nabokov's Multiple Narrative"focalization"in The De-fense
Nabokov's early creation of The Defense constructed the protagonist Lu zhin's"growth"process and self-exploration path with a unique image and model in the chess game.The author has formed a unique narrative theme with the help of chess attack and defense,as well as the chain reaction of the chess game.On the basis of broadening the narrative"focalization"theory and character discourse mode,this article focuses on the unique and multi-dimensional perspective in the author's creation,and explores the narrative writing of the character image constructed on the level of narrative voice,angle and dis-course,and uses this as an entry point,to discuss the protagonist's growth paradox and the self-explora-tion process of the life game at the content level.As a creation during the exile period,the strong Russian reference has multiple metaphors in the distortion and paradox of the protagonist's growth.This article ex-plores the life calls behind the growth in exile through the combination of the narrative and contents.
