The Elementary Discussion of Park Design for the Blind
The target to be served in the park is all the people in the society and the healthy people are usually the target to be considered in design of the traditional park, while the people who are lack of eyesight—the blind, are ignored. To find the problems regarding to the blind in park design, a questionnaire among the blinds was made and results were analyzed and summarized. With the understanding of the psychological needs and space requirements, this paper proposed the security principle, structural integrity principle of the landscape, principle of barrier-free design. Soundscape, olfactory landscape and tactile landscape are included in the content of landscape design. Road and public facilities are also included. The purpose of this paper is to arouse all the community to pay close attention to the blind, and to make the theory of park design more perfect. In this way the blind can have a suitable space for leisure activities to enrich their daily life.
