Correlation Analysis of Seven Garlic Varieties Resistance to Delia antiqua and Allicin Content
Delia antiqua(Meigen)is one destructive root maggot species to garlic.However,long-term dependence on chemical insecticides can lead to the accumulation of insecticide resistance in the field and a serious threat to environmental safety and human health. In order to determine the resistance of differences 7 varieties garlic to D.antiqua and explore the resistance mechanism,we detected the effects of different garlic varieties on the D.antiqua life parameters, compared the difference damage among garlic varieties in the field, and analyzed the correlation between allicin content and the resistance of different garlic varieties. The results indicated Qixian and Cangshan garlic exhibited stronger inhibitory effect on the life parameters of D.antiqua than that of Siliuban and Baodi garlic, such as prolonged larval development, reduced pupal weight, decreased larval survival, and shortened adult lifespan accompanied by decreased fecundity. The field investigation results indicated the D.antiqua damage on Qixian and Cangshan garlic was significantly lower than that of Siliuban and Baodi garlic. In addition, the allicin content of Qixian and Cangshan garlic was significantly higher than that of Siliuban and Baodi garlic, there was a significant positive correlation between allicin content and insect resistance. In conclusion, the garlic varieties with higher allicin content have the higher resistance against D.antiqua.Breeding garlic varieties with higher allicin content is important for improving the garlic quality and reducing the harm of root maggots.
