Research Progress on Response Mechanism of Rice to Drought and Rewatering
Rice(Oryza sativa L.)is one of the main grain crops in the world, and the largest water user in agriculture. The increasing shortage of agricultural irrigation water seriously restricts the sustainable development of rice production. One common feature of most water-saving irrigation technologies or systems of rice is that rice fields have to experience the cycle process from water layer to moderate drought and then to rehydration. The response mechanism of rice plants during the transition from moderate drought state to is not systematically summarized. This paper systematically reviews the research progress of the main water-saving irrigation techniques, the differences among varieties in the process of rice response to drought rehydration, the aboveground agronomic and physiological characteristics, root morphology and physiological characteristics, and the molecular mechanism of rice response to drought rehydration, proposes the current challenges and future research trends, the aim is to provide reference for breeding high-yield water-saving rice varieties and efficient water-saving cultivation techniques.
