The river flow monitoring station network is an important grid system for collecting hydrological informa-tion related to the runoff in the watershed. This article is based on the current situation of the flow monitoring station network in the Jinghe River Basin of Gansu Province. The upper and lower limits of the number of large river control sta-tions are determined using the runoff rate method and linear interpolation accuracy method. The regional representative stations are determined using the Euclidean closeness method. Then,an optimization plan for the station network layout is proposed. The total number of flow monitoring stations in the Jinghe River Basin of Gansu Province has increased from 21 to 27 after layout optimization, including the addition of 1 river control station,5 regional representative stations, and the relocation of 1 regional representative station. The station network density has increased from 1 476 km2/station to 1 148 km2/station.The research results have achieved control over the temporal and spatial distribution changes of water resources in the Jinghe River Basin of Gansu Province, improving the social and economic benefits of the station network.
