Numerical Study of Critical Separation Flow Characteristics of Turbulent Flow with Sinusoidal Walls
In corrugated pipes, the influence of the waveform wall on the flow is significant, where the presence of flow separation has an important and essential effect on the flow resistance and heat transfer characteristics of corrugated pipes.Addressing the effect of waveform ratio on the generation of flow separation, the SST κ-ω turbulence model was used to numerically simulate the flow in a sinusoidal wavy-wall pipe flow and the flow characteristics ware described. Then the influence of the waveform ratio and Reynolds number on the generation of flow separation was analyzed. The re-sults show that there exists a critical Reynolds number for flow separation in every wavy-wall pipe flow with different waveform ratios. When Reynolds number is smaller than the critical Reynolds number, the flow separation does not occur in the pipe. Finally, the critical Reynolds number distribution equation for the waveform ratio is obtained by curve fitting. The results of the study can provide reference for the industrial design of corrugated wall surfaces to a certain extent.
