Characterization of Drought Cycle Evolution in Liaoning Province Based on Cycle Exploring Method
In order to investigate the annual and seasonal drought cycle patterns of different climatic regions in Liaon-ing Province, based on the daily precipitation data from 22 national ground meteorological observation stations in Liaoning Province from 1961 to 2020,the rotated empirical orthogonal function(REOF)was used to divide the study area into precipitation division, and then calculated standardized precipitation index(SPI)at different time scales. The cycle char-acteristics of the SPI at different time scales in each division was analyzed by the cycle exploring method, and the results was compared with the Morlet wavelet analysis. The study indicates that the cycle exploring method can be well applied to drought cycle analysis. On the annual scale, there was a significant cycle pattern of about 7 a in subareas Ⅰ and Ⅱ,and the cycle pattern in subarea Ⅲ was dominated by 5 a.On the seasonal scale, the cycle pattern of each season was mainly 4~7 a in subareas Ⅰ and Ⅱ,while the cycle scale was slightly longer in subarea Ⅲ,mainly 6~9 a in each sea-son.There was some differences in the cycle evolution characteristics of different time scales in each subarea.
