Primary Frequency Control of Variable Speed Pumped Storage Unit Based on Coordinated Control of Governor-Frequency Converter
As an important development direction of pumped storage technology,the variable speed pumped storage unit(VSPSU)can provide important support for guaranteeing the security and stability of frequency of power grid with high-proportion new energy resources.This paper aims to study the primary frequency control of VSPSU based on coor-dinated control of governor-frequency converter.Firstly,the simulation model for the VSPSU is established.Then,the characteristics of primary frequency control of VSPSU based on coordinated control are analyzed.Finally,the characteris-tics of primary frequency control of VSPSU-fixed speed pumped storage unit(FSPSU)are revealed.The results indicate that the response speed of active power of primary frequency control for VSPSU under the coordinated control mode 1 of governor-frequency converter is significantly faster than that under the coordinated control mode 2 of governor-frequency converter.The inhibiting effect of governor on the oscillations of guide vane opening and rotational speed of primary fre-quency control is superior to frequency converter.The regulating speed of the active power of primary frequency control under frequency converter is significantly faster than that under governor.The response speed of active power of primary frequency control for VSPSU under the coordinated control mode 1 of governor-frequency converter is sligthly slower than that for FSPSU.The response speed of active power of primary frequency control for VSPSU under the coordinated con-trol mode 2 of governor-frequency converter is significantly faster than that for FSPSU.
