Application Analysis of Composite Clay Core Wall Material in Earth-rock Dam
In this paper,a series of numerical analyses of earth dams with vertical core wall and two different materials, pure and mixed clay, are carried out in combination with the two types of consolidation conditions in the core wall during dam construction:completely un-drained and partially drained. The results show that when the core is composed of pure clay, the excess pore water pressure generated in the core during construction is relatively high for completely un-drained.For partial drainage, the value of excess pore water pressure in both types of cores depends on the construction and consolidation rates, and if core drainage is obstructed, the settlement in cores composed of pure clay is relatively high. When core consolidation is allowed, there is little difference in settlement between cores composed of pure and mixed clays. The horizontal displacement value of the core composed of pure clay material is higher than the corresponding value of the core composed of mixed clay,so it should be further popularized and applied.
