Event-related potential N450 study on excitement and inhibition in conflict monitoring
To investigate the effects of excitation and inhibition on N450 during conflict monitoring in healthy subjects doing the Stroop variant(word sense-duration task).46 undergraduate students were chosen and randomly assigned to the duration estimation task group(n=22)and the consistency judgment task group(n=24).Inhibition vs.excitation and inhibition were then induced in word sense,respectively.Event-related potentials(ERPs)N450 were then researched in both groups under the conditions between word sense and duration judgment the conflict and non-conflict.The results showed that:(1)In the conflict condition, reaction times signifi-cantly increased in both groups;meanwhile, the duration estimation task group's correct rate dramatically fell(P<0.05);(2)There was a significant variation in the amplitude of the N450 wave under the two conditions when word sense inhibition and excitation were induced simultaneously(P<0.05);(3)The sLORETA trace data showed that conflict processing was linked to both frontoparietal net-work and cingulate gyrus activation. The study indicates that the excitatory and inhibitory components of the stimulus have an impact on both the event-related potential N450 and the reactions of the subjects during stimulus conflict.
