Sun Deqian was a well-known bibliographer during the Republic of China.He made important contributions in summarizing the theory and methods of bibliography,reviewing historical records,and compiling and revising bibliographies.Sun Deqian's bibliographic research was influenced by Zhang Xuecheng's"literary and his-torical proofreading"and focused on the induction and summary of instances.Hanshu Yiwenzhi Juli refines the style of Hanshu Yiwenzhi and LiuXiang Jiaochouxue Zuanwei analyzes Liu Xiang's method,which is quite pioneering.He di-vided the credits of the catalogue into the directory of readers,the catalogue of collectors and the catalogue of histori-ans,and emphasized the function of"distinguishing academic categories and figuring out their different origins"of bibliography.He believed that emendation was the study of bibliography,which further clarified the definition of bib-liography.Sun supplemented JinShi Yiwenlue,revised SiKuTiYao,and participated in Zhang's Posthumous Book,which is of important reference value for ancient books collation and the study of bibliography history.
