Tour of the Old Site of Kiaochow Commercial Port Public Library
As the predecessor of Qingdao Library,the old site of Kiaochow Commercial Port Public Library is located at No.2 Juxian Road,Qingdao City.With a European architectural style,the building was once used as a department of Franz Xaver Mauerer's Company during the German occupation period but not specifically built for library.It was included in the Qingdao Historical Architecture Protection List in 2020.It was an urban public library established in 1924,following the Kiaochow District Library(1898)and the Confucius Worship Association Library(1914),which was open to the public and provided popular reading services.The Kiaochow Commercial Port Public Library and the later Qingdao Municipal Library had done a lot of work,such as establishing mobile book carts serv-ice,touring libraries,and setting up civilian evening schools,which set a good example for proactive library services during the Republic of China era.
