"Preserving the Quintessence of China":the Library and Protection of Cultural Relics in the Early Republic Period of China(1912-1937)
Before the outbreak of the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, modern Chi-nese libraries were tasked with the dual mission of preserving ancient texts and artifacts under the influence of both tradition and reality. Many libraries undertook various initiatives by establishing affiliated museum institutions,pro-moting museum education, participating in field archaeology,as well as collecting and safeguarding ancient artifacts.Through these efforts, they succeeded in protecting a wealth of precious cultural relics.Furthermore, they actively disseminated knowledge about cultural relic conservation by promoting books on cultural relics and archaeology, reporting archaeological news and organizing cultural relic exhibitions, thereby driving forward the cause of the protec-tion of cultural relics in modern China.
