Spat-Temporal Evolution of Multi-Functionality of Rural Regions in the Dabie Mountains Areas in China and Its Coupling Coordination Degree
Rural transformation in China's Contiguous Poverty-Stricken Areas has received widespread attention. To explore the multifunctional role and spat-temporal differentiation of rural areas of China is the basis for realizing the optimal allocation of regional resources, solving the dilemma faced by rural development and promoting the sustainable development of rural areas.China's Dabie Mountains area,a historically important old revolutionary area, with its dual characteristics of economic backwardness and rich natural resources, constitutes a typical case for studying the multifunctional evolution of rural territories. In this study, the rural regions in 31 counties of the Dabie Mountains areas were selected as the research object, and the multifunctional evaluation index system of rural territories was constructed. It applied the coupling coordination degree model and spatial autocorrelation model to quantitatively analyze the spatio-temporal evolution of multi-functionality of rural regions in the counties of the Dabie Mountains areas in the period of 2005-2020,as well as their changes in coupling coordination degree.(1)The ecological function of rural regions in the Dabie Mountains area remained stable, with production and living functions gradually improving. The spatial agglomeration of production function in the rural regions tended to be decentralized, and the overall spatial distribution was characterized by high around and low in the middle. From a decentralized spatial pattern in the beginning, the living functions had developed into a more balanced distribution pattern of rural living functions. The spatial agglomeration of ecology function was gradually enhanced, and the overall distribution pattern was characterized by high in the middle and low in the periphery, showing a distribution landscape surrounded by mountains and rivers, and connected in series in strips.(2)For the study period, the multi-functional coupling coordination degree of the rural regions in the Dabie Mountains area increased steadily and was in the moderate coordination stage. The central mountainous areas can rely on the advantages of ecological resources to make up for the shortcomings of production and living functions.Districts and counties with prominent production and living functions should continue to maintain high-quality development of their functions while ensuring the sustainability of ecological functions. This study provides a scientific basis for optimal allocation of rural multi-functional space and determination of development direction in the Dabie Mountains and other similar areas, and it provides a reference for promoting the smooth transformation of rural areas and the coordinated development of urban-rural integration, and helps to solve the problem of insufficient stamina of economic development from the root.
