Quality research status of Chinese medicine Toad venom
Toad venom is a dry secretion from the posterior auricular glands or skin glands of the Bufonidae,Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor,or Bufo melanostictus Schneider.As a traditional Chinese medicine,Toad venom has a complex chemical composition and wide clinical application.It has many pharmacological activities,such as anti-tumor,cardiac strengthening,anti-inflammatory,local anesthesia,alleviating pain,and so on.This paper summarizes the research status of the quality of Toad venom from the aspects of herbalogical study,quality influencing factors,and quality standards.It is expected to provide a reference for the further quality control of Toad venom medicinal materials from the current standards.
