Research progress on the mechanisms and pharmacological effects of puerarin on gouty arthritis
Gouty arthritis(GA)is a metabolic arthritis caused by elevated uric acid levels resulting from disruptions in purine metabolism. In recent years,an increasing number of traditional Chinese medicine monomers have been used for the treatment of GA,demonstrating satisfactory therapeutic effects with no apparent adverse reactions.Among them, puerarin is an isoflavone compound extracted and isolated from the root of Pueraria lobata. It exerts immunomodulatory effects, regulates inflammatory factors, and blocks inflammatory signaling pathways, effectively alleviating arthritis inflammation.Additionally, puerarin inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase, promotes uric acid excretion, and lowers the body's uric acid levels. This article aims to systematically review the pharmacological actions and underlying mechanisms of puerarin in the treatment of GA,providing essential theoretical evidence for further basic research and new drug development in puerarin-based therapy for GA.
