Study on the effect of fermented ginseng extract on promoting the regeneration of pancreatic β-cell in zebrafish
Objective Ginseng is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, contains various bioactive compounds with an-tioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-aging properties.Studies have reported that ginseng has preventive and therapeutic effects on diabetes. However, whether extract from ginseng has activity to promote pancreatic β-cell regeneration remains un-clear.In this study,we investigated the relationship between fermented ginseng extract(FGE)and β-cell regeneration using zebrafish as a model. Methods We employed a series of transgenic zebrafish models, which endocrine cell labelled with flo-rescence proteins to evaluate whether FGE could enhance β-cell regeneration. Moreover, utilized confocal imaging and other techniques to assess the detail action underlying FGE's promotion of β-cell regeneration. Results FGE significantly promo-ted β-cell regeneration in a zebrafish model of diabetes and lowed blood glucose levels.Further studies revealed that FGE promote β-cell regeneration due to increasing of endocrine precursor cell differentiation. Conclusion Fermented ginseng extract promotes zebrafish pancreatic β-cell regeneration. This regenerative action primarily contributed by the differentiation of endocrine precursor cell.
