Application of Seismic Energy Dissipation Technology in Resilient Reinforcement for a Hemodialysis Center
Combined with a single-span concrete frame structure, this paper introduces in detail seismic retrofit of a medical building applying energy dissipation technology. The seismic retrofit is carried out by arranging several buckling-restrained braces(BRBs)in 2 orthogonal directions.Under the frequent earthquake action, the BRBs only provide stiffness to reduce the elastic story drifts, and the substructures absorb partial seismic energy, reducing the amount of the main structure's retrofit greatly.Under the basis earthquake action, the BRBs yield slightly and bear partial horizontal seismic action, which enhance the ability of the column to resist horizontal seismic action.Under the rare earthquake action, the BRBs yield in compression as well as tension with significant energy dissipation, and reduce the plastic damages of the main structure, improving the overall seismic performance. The BRBs protect the main structure through hysteretic energy, which is essentially a kind of structural damage control design procedures.By replacing the seriously damaged BRBs after the earthquake,it can fulfill the target of seismic resilience. The use of BRBs for seismic strengthening of medical buildings with single span frame structure has a good effect.
