Analysis of the Impact of External Window Glass on Ultra-low Energy Buildings
As an important component of the envelope for buildings, the external window system plays a critical role in the energy efficiency and comfort of a building. As a part of the transparent envelope structure, external window glass has a variety of uses such as light transmission, thermal insulation, sound insulation, decoration, etc.,which could directly affect the implementation effect of ultra-low energy-consuming buildings. Therefore the impact of glass on ultra-low energy buildings and the application of three-pane two-cavity window glass were studied and the analysis was conducted using ultra-low energy buildings in Shanghai as a case study. The results show that the performance of glass is determined by the base glass material, the number of air layers, and the coating process. In the presented case, the main constraint indicators are the glass visible light transmission ratio and the shading coefficient.
