Based on data from the China General Social Survey(CGSS),the relationship between economic status, perceived social equity and subjective well-being is studied. The study shows that economic status has an inverted U-shaped relationship with subjective well-being.Economic status has a happiness inflection point. And perceived social equity plays a mediating role in the inverted U-shaped relationship between economic status and subjective well-being.Further group tests show that the degree of economic development does not change the inverted U-shaped relationship. After a series of robustness tests, the conclusions still hold. The findings suggest that pursuing moderate economic status will have a better level of well-being,and strengthening the social equity is more conducive to enhancing the well-being of residents in less developed regions.
