Example of Reducing the Biological Toxicity of Discharged Production Water on a Certain Platform in the South China Sea
A certain platform in the South China Sea is a deep-water gas production platform, consisting of underwater production systems, ethylene glycol recovery units, and production water treatment systems.During the initial stage of production, the biological toxicity of the discharged production water was tested and found to be near the discharge standard, with a risk of exceeding the standard at any time.A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the treatment process of the platform, and it was determined that the main cause of high biological toxicity was the injection of methanol into the wellhead during the well opening period.Improvement measures such as optimizing the well opening program, verifying the injection amount of methanol, and adjusting process parameters were taken to solve the problem of high biological toxicity in the production water of offshore deepwater gas production platforms during the well opening period. This method provides reference and guidance for similar gas field facilities.
