Advances in Denitrification of Wastewater with Added Solid Carbon Source
With the enforcement of the Pollutant Emission Standards for Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants(GB-18918-2002),which sets stricter limits on ammonia nitrogen emission concentrations, many urban wastewater treatment plants in China are struggling to meet the standards. The main obstacle to achieving denitrification is the insufficient supply of carbon sources. This paper summarizes the current status and problems in the research and application of new solid carbon sources of natural or modified cellulose, biodegradable polymers, and multicarbon composites for the purpose of enhancing denitrification and denitrification of sewage with low C/N ratios, which requires the additional addition of carbon sources.
