Effect of Laser Shock on the Structure of Tool TiO2-ZrO2 Thermal Barrier Metallurgical Coating
Single-layer TiO2 and double-layer TiO2-ZrO2 thermal barrier metallurgical coatings were prepared by a self-made method. The microstructure and crystal types of the coatings were characterized by laser shock intensification. The results show that the coating forms a columnar dendrite structure, and a large number of micro-holes are generated between the dendrites. When the coating is strengthened by laser shock, ablation occurs, which inhibits the transfer of heat on the normal line, reaches a higher surface temperature, and causes the increase of grain size. After laser shock intensification, the two-layer TiO2-ZrO2 was ablated, and TiO2 grains with orientation were formed. The research is helpful to improve the metallurgical bonding ability of the thermal barrier coating and the tool base and prolong the service life of the tool.
