Can the Development of Digital Economy Narrow the Urban-Rural Income Gap?——An Empirical Study Based on 287 Prefecture-level Cities
Based on the panel data of 287 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2019,this paper constructs the threshold effect, mediating effect and moderating effect models to explore the impact and mecha-nism of digital economy on the urban-rural income gap.The results show that:1)The development of digital economy inhibits the expansion of urban-rural income gap,but there is a threshold effect;2)Digital economy re-duces the income gap between urban and rural areas by breaking the urban-rural digital divide and driving re-gional innovation and entrepreneurship;3)There is regional heterogeneity in the impact of digital economy on the urban-rural income gap. Therefore,on the one hand,we should vigorously develop the digital economy and ac-celerate the digital transformation of industries; On the other hand,it is also necessary to narrow the urban-rural digital divide, encourage regional innovation and entrepreneurship, and take science and technology as the core, implement differentiated development according to local conditions,in order to better play the role of digital economy development in narrowing the urban-rural income gap.
