Feasibility Study on Flooding Risk and Flood Control Measures for Small and Medium Rivers in Mountainous Areas
Due to the dual impacts of climate change and human activities, the frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation events have increased, presenting new challenges to flood control in small and medium rivers. However, floods in small and medium rivers receive less attention compared to those in large rivers, and due to the relative scarcity of flood data, the flood risk analysis for small and medium rivers is not yet complete. The governance of small and medium rivers across the province is still immature. Therefore, taking the Phoenix Creek in Chaozhou City as an example,a one-dimensional inundation model was developed using ArcGIS software to investigate the flooding risks under five different flood frequency scenarios and to propose feasible flood control measures for the flooding risks of Phoenix Creek.
