In the context of urban development led by stock renewal,the old residential areas in Shanghai's historical and cultural districts have become important renewal targets,carrying the dual mission of protecting the historical landscape and improving people's livelihood.Based on the principle of sustainable urban renewal,the renovation of historical and cultural districts should emphasize comprehensive spatial planning,innovative implementation models,and diverse participation in the renewal process.This article summarizes the experience and challenges in the renovation practice of old residential areas in the Xuhui Hengfu Historical and Cultural Area,and puts forward implementation suggestions to improve the sustainability of the renovation of old residential areas in historical and cultural districts.These suggestions include expanding the scale of renovation to coordinate urban spatial patterns and development,innovating renewal pathways to implement tailored approaches,and encouraging diverse stakeholders'participation for holistic management.It is expected to promote the renovation of old residential areas in historical and cultural districts in an orderly manner and further achieve the goal of sustainable urban renovation.
