Research progress of photodynamic antimicrobial dressings
The abuse of antibiotics has led to the continuous emergence of drug-resistant microorganisms,so it is urgent to explore new antimicrobial treatments with extremely low drug resistance.Photodynamic antibacterial therapy uses photosensitizers to produce reactive oxygen species after light stimulation to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms, inhibiting the formation of biofilms. Therefore, photodynamic antibacterial therapy has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and extremely low drug resistance. In clinical practice, photosensitizers are often applied directly to wounds, which may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. In order to avoid side effects, photosensitizers are introduced into hydrogels, nanofibers and other carrier materials to obtain better antimicrobial effects. The mechanism and advantages of photodynamic antibacterial therapy and the latest development of photodynamic antimicrobial dressings are summarized, including monotherapy and cotherapy, providing reference for the design and development of new dressings.
