Licensing Strategies and Blockchain Adoption Decisions in Remanufacturing Supply Chains Considering Consumer Search Behavior
Blockchain promises to alleviate the lack of trust and transparency in the remanufacturing supply chain. This paper analyses how blockchain enables consumers to access full information about remanufac-turers'products free of charge, taking into account technology licensing. This paper develops a theoretical model including manufacturers and third-party remanufacturers with the aim of exploring manufacturers'licensing strategies and remanufacturers'blockchain adoption decisions. Our results show that a manufac-turer's optimal licensing strategy is mainly affected by the unit production cost and the fixed license fee.In addition,in the fixed licensing strategy, remanufacturers should adopt blockchain when the unit produc-tion cost is low and the fixed licensing fee is low,and in the privileged licensing fee strategy,remanufac-turers should adopt blockchain when the unit production cost is low and the fixed licensing fee is low or when the consumer's search effort is large and both the unit production cost and the fixed licensing fee are high. This paper also discusses how the manufacturer's licensing strategy and the remanufacturer's block-chain adoption strategy interact with each other under the sequential game.
