An Application of MBBR-High Efficiency Precipitation Filtration Process to Retrofitting of a WWTP with Limited Land Available
To retrofit a wastewater treatment plant with the capacity of 3×104m3/d in Hubei Province, its effluent is designed to meet the Class 1-A level specified in"Discharge standard of pollutants for urban wastewater treatment plants"(GB 18918-2002)whilst facing a trouble of limited land availability. An MBBR-high efficiency precipitation filtration process is adopted to retrofit the current CAST process whilst being closely integrated with the existent process facilities. The biochemical tank is embedded with MBBR process in situ without any additional structure needed. In order to ensure the stable and efficient removal of SS and total phosphorus, the high efficiency precipitation filtration process is used as an advanced treatment unit within a minimal space.Through the retrofitting, average concentration of CODCr,BOD5,SS,total nitrogen, total phosphorus and ammonia-nitrogen in the effluent could be lower than 20 mg/L,5.5 mg/L,8.8 mg/L,12 mg/L,0.28 mg/L and 2.4 mg/L,respectively,i.e.,the effluent strength could keep at stable level superior to its design standard,or even part of variables could tend to attain the Category Ⅳof surface water standard.A feature of the MBBR-high efficiency precipitation filtration process is concise, intensive, stable and efficient,so as to be applicable to retrofitting, expanding or newly constructing a WWTP with limited space available.
