Can Community Home Care Services Effectively Improve the Mental Health of the Elderly?Empirical Analysis Based on Endogenous Switching Regression Model
This article constructs a theoretical analysis framework of the health effects of community home care services by expanding the Grossman health production function.Based on the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey data, this study uses the endogenous switching regression model to empirically analyze the impact of community home care services on the mental health of the elderly and the mechanisms. The study found that the use of community home care services significantly improves the mental health of the elderly, and this improvement effect is inclusive, showing a more prominent effect on female elderly people in the central and western regions with lower education levels. At the same time, community home care services mainly improve the mental health of the elderly through basic life services.Compared with spiritual comfort and counseling assistance services, basic life services have a more obvious effect on improving the mental health of the elderly. Therefore, the development of home-based elderly care services can be an effective strategy to improve the mental health of the elderly in the context of aging. It is necessary to comprehensively improve the effective supply level of community home-based elderly care services based on daily life services.
