Optimization Design of Mechanical Seal for Air Floatation Circulating Pump Against Cavitation Erosion
Air flotation devices are usually used on offshore oil platforms, and their initial design was to treat oily wastewater generated during offshore oil production. The principle is to fill the water with a large number of fine bubbles by injecting nitrogen into the oily wastewater. These bubbles will attach to impurity particles, forming a floating body with a specific gravity smaller than water, and gradually float upwards towards the water surface. The air flotation circulating centrifugal pump must work continuously. However, since the medium transported by the air flotation circulating centrifugal pump is a mixed two-phase flow containing a large number of fine bubbles,This will inevitably lead to cavitation, leading to cavitation. The mechanical seal used in this air flotation circulating pump cools and lubricates the internal part of the air mechanical seal by draining the transportation medium. Therefore, the axial pressure compensation device of the mechanical seal is often damaged. This article conducts fluid solid coupling simulation of the on-site cavitation installation and combines the results of on-site installation experiments to design the mechanical density of the air flotation circulating pump for cavitation resistance.
