Corrosion Analysis and Protection of Outlet Pipeline Elbow of Acid Gas Air Cooler
The first elbow of the outlet pipeline of the acid gas air cooler in the solvent regeneration unit experienced perforation leakage and wall thickness reduction. The corrosion situation of the elbow was analyzed through macroscopic inspection, and the microscopic corrosion morphology was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The composition of the corrosion products was analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),and the metallographic structure, chemical composition, and hardness of the elbow were analyzed. The reasons for the failure of the elbow were discussed in combination with the operating conditions of the air cooler. The results showed that due to the low gas flow velocity in the non-operating state of the crack, the alkaline acidic water in the air cooler flowed downward along the pipe wall, causing liquid erosion and corrosion on the outer bend of the elbow, resulting in local thinning of the elbow.Based on the failure reasons, measures to improve the gas phase flow rate and local corrosion protection within the pipeline were proposed.
