Effect of Homogenization Temperature on Microstructure and Properties of 5052 Aluminum Alloy
A homogenization treatment consisting of soaking at temperatures ranging from 520 to 580 ℃ for 20 h followed by air cooling was conducted on the 5052 aluminum alloy ingot, subsequently, the alloy were tested for the microstructure, mechanical properties and electrochemical properties to reveal the effect of homogenization temperature on its microstructure and properties. The results showed that the optimum homogenization process for the 5052 aluminum alloy was at soaking 560 ℃ for 20 h then air cooling, and the 5052 aluminum alloy homogenized by this process exhibited significantly reduced precipitation of Al3Fe phase and the enhanced plasticity, its tensile strength was 193.4 MPa and elongation was 24.4%,the self-corrosion potential was-1.202 V,and the self-corrosion current density was 8.664×10-6 A·cm2 in a 3.5%(by volume)NaCl solution, corrosion resistance being the best. The homogenization treatment could significantly reduce the precipitation of Al3Fe phase in the alloy and reduce the tendency for the alloy to generate intergranular corrosion.
