As a translator,Lu Xun's primary focus was on the"cultivation of men".This paper examines Lu Xun's discussions on translation and attempts to summarize his thoughts into seven key concepts:"borrowing""mediator""hard translation""indirect translation""retranslation""foreignness",and"gleaning".It is argued that Lu Xun,as one of the pioneers in modern and contempo-rary Chinese translation theories, has transcended his era in terms of his perspectives on translation. The rich connotations of his ideas should be further interpreted and explored to fully realize their potential. The dissemination and development of Lu Xun's views on trans-lation may contribute to the construction of Chinese discourses on translation and facilitate dialogue with their international counterparts.
